چکیده
Throughout the last thirty years, major shifts in vineyard floor management have been observed. Challenges initially posed by intensive tillage included high rates of soil erosion and degeneration structure organic matter, which lead viticulturists to depend more heavily on herbicide use as an effective weed control strategy. However, increase persistence toxicity water, soils, grapevines, increasing resistance common weeds; pressure from consumers regulators reduce their is directing a shift towards overall reduction usage. This has led frequent manage vegetation vineyards, while some instances, cultural practices including slashing animal grazing are used solely or conjunction. little known about holistic effects these varying soils biodiversity across landscapes Australia. Thus, comparatively assess environmental impacts different practices, health indicators plant dynamics were seasonally measured mid- under-vine rows at twenty-four sites four native Barossa Valley, Eden McLaren Vale, all located South Australia, where intensities implemented. Vineyard categorised based frequency and/or passes particularly area into Low (no annual passes), Medium (one pass), High (two passes) intensity groups. Findings revealed similarities mid-rows intensities, yet displayed many differences; particular, there species, higher coverage, greater biomass group. Furthermore, decreased, relative richness ruderal species also giving way community mainly comprised slow-growing, perennial Poaceae Fabaceae Low-intensity These differences drove suite responses faster water infiltration, ammonium-N total nitrogen, tendency gravimetric content time sampling. results suggest that after initial period establishing extensive low levels disturbance may contribute positively improving natural ecosystem synergy functionality between plants. Therefore, our findings lend insights how rather than differing ideologies per se, viticultural landscape can be intrinsic supporters agroecosystem resilience under Australian conditions.

Dissipation of herbicides in soil and grapes in a South Australian vineyard
The persistence of herbicides applied in vineyards has become a concern in recent years due to their wide use. Investigations into the fate of herbicides in a vineyard in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, have been directed towards the dissipation of herbicides in soil and on grapes. Concentrations of the herbicides, norflurazon, oxadiazon, and oxyfluorfen in soil were monitored following th...
متن کاملManagement Intensity and Topography Determined Plant Diversity in Vineyards
Vineyards are amongst the most intensive forms of agriculture often resulting in simplified landscapes where semi-natural vegetation is restricted to small scattered patches. However, a tendency toward a more sustainable management is stimulating research on biodiversity in these poorly investigated agro-ecosystems. The main aim of this study was to test the effect on plant diversity of managem...
متن کاملImpacts of Grazing Intensity and Plant Community Composition on Soil Bacterial Community Diversity in a Steppe Grassland
Soil bacteria play a key role in the ecological and evolutionary responses of agricultural ecosystems. Domestic herbivore grazing is known to influence soil bacterial community. However, the effects of grazing and its major driving factors on soil bacterial community remain unknown for different plant community compositions under increasing grazing intensity. Thus, to investigate soil bacterial...
متن کاملCoupling of soil prokaryotic diversity and plant diversity across latitudinal forest ecosystems
The belowground soil prokaryotic community plays a cardinal role in sustaining the stability and functions of forest ecosystems. Yet, the nature of how soil prokaryotic diversity co-varies with aboveground plant diversity along a latitudinal gradient remains elusive. By establishing three hundred 400-m(2) quadrats from tropical rainforest to boreal forest in a large-scale parallel study on both...
متن کاملManagement Impacts on Forest Floor and Soil Organic Carbon in Northern Temperate Forests of the US
BACKGROUND The role of forests in the global carbon cycle has been the subject of a great deal of research recently, but the impact of management practices on forest soil dynamics at the stand level has received less attention. This study used six forest management experimental sites in five northern states of the US to investigate the effects of silvicultural treatments (light thinning, heavy ...
